Le single est sorti en Aout 1990, avec en face B "If you were my woman". Il fait partie de l'album LISTEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE . A cette époque George Michael était en désaccord avec CBS au sujet (entre autres) de la promotion de ses disques et refuse d'apparaitre dans un clip. Il donne son accord pour une vidéo à condition qu'il n'y apparraisse pas. Il demande à ce que le clip soit trés simple: les paroles de la chanson en blanc sur un fond noir, ce qui donne CECI.
Le titre sort et reçoit un énorme écho de la presse. USA TODAY le compare même à "Imagine" de John Lennon. George n'y voit aucune ressemblance, voici ce qu'il en pense "ce n'est pas du tout comme Imagine.C'est beaucoup plus négatif. J'aimerai dire que les choses s'enchainent pour que tout aille mieux mais je n'y crois pas. Cette chanson est ma façon d'essayer de justifier ce que font les gens et leur égoisme".
Le titre s'est classé n°1 aux USA et 6éme en Grande Bretagne.
George énerva encore plus CBS lorsqu'il annonça en conférence de presse qu'il n'avait pas été content de découvrir que les troupes américaines avaient adopté sa chanson comme hymne au moment de la guerre du Golfe.
